Nicola is our Nursery Chef who cooks meals from scratch for the children in our care.  Milk and water are the only drink options offered in our setting to ensure children are able to make healthy choices. They are able to help themselves to fresh water from our water coolers in their own named cups, we also have milk delivered daily from McQueens Dairies in small individual cartons for the children.

Breakfast is served between 06.45am and 08.30am and comprises of cereal/toast/fruit/yogurt/croissants/bagels/porridge

Lunch is served at 12.00pm and is a two course hot meal, the children have a choice of a vegetarian dish or a meat dish or both.  This is served with a minimum of two vegetables/salad and either rice/pasta/potatoes/couscous.  Two days weekly a choice of starters are offered and the remaining three days the children have a choice of a homemade dessert or fruit.

High tea is served at 4.00pm which is usually a lighter meal with salad and a dessert or piece of fruit.

A snack of five to six different fruits, salad or raw vegetables are offered at 9.30am and 2.30pm.  Children used to self select from the snack plate but due to Covid-19 these are now served in individual bowls.

Nicola provides a vegetarian/halal option and a dairy free option daily.  She is able to cater for any dietary requirements and ensures that all food is stored and prepared separately. Nicola will meet with parents or carers to discuss individual dietary requirements when required.

The weeks menu is displayed in each room and is published on the parent app.

When it is a childs birthday we provide traditional party food and a cake with candles for them to share with their friends

All our meals are served in the childrens rooms.  Each room has their own crockery and cutlery depending on their age and stage of development.  This is then returned to the kitchen and washed and sanitised at high temperatures in the commercial dishwasher before being returned to the rooms.

Children are encouraged to use a knife, fork and spoon.  Children in our pre-school room use school dinner trays and glasses to prepare them for school. Meals are a social occasion and staff sit down and eat with the children.  Children are encouraged to say please and thank you and remain seated throughout their meals.

Parents and carers are informed daily via the parent app of what their children have eaten and drunk throughout the day.

Nicola is currently working towards her Soil Association Food for Life for Early Years Award, please see separate page for details.

All staff are a minimum of Food Hygiene Level 2 trained.

We are aware of the 14 known allergens and we ensure that all ingredients for all the recipes we use in the setting are documented and all allergens are highlighted.

We are a NUT FREE setting.

If you have any questions about our menus or any special requests please contact us and ask to speak with Nicola.
